Review: Loaded Nacho Fries from Midtown Global Market’s Taco Cat

The primary story here is that this portion is HUGE. $12 gets you a boat of fries that must weigh in at close to a pound. Do not consider attempting these on your own. This is an item designed to be shared with two to six friends, or however many friends you can squeeze in around the table. Let strangers have a few. Go crazy.

The fries are perfectly crisp, wide-cut and golden in color, smothered with a ton of flavorful black beans and a very good cheese sauce, there is no chance for any one fry to go without some sort of accoutrement. A few differences from the official listed description: the jalapeños were supposed to be pickled, but seemed like standard sliced jalapeños as found on cheaper-quality nachos, and there didn’t seem to be the option to add chorizo sausage as was mentioned. Not that this dish needed any extra heft to it. Taco Cat is only available at the Fair through August 28th, when it will be replaced with another Midtown Global Market restaurant; Taco Cat is here for a good time, not a long time.
