Review: General Tso Chicken Tacos from Midtown Global Market’s Taco Cat

Reviewer’s bias: I think Taco Cat’s year-round retail location at the Midtown Global Market offers some of the best tacos in the city, so I had some preconceived good will towards their State Fair debut. The biggest difference from their regular location and the Fair version is in price. While the tacos offered at the Fair are larger, two tacos for $12 is a rough price to pay knowing their regular location is roughly half that price. Having said that, if you are looking for an entree-sized meal with flavor and substance, these tacos should hit the spot. Crispy chicken is mixed with ginger, garlic and soy sauce, covered with seasoned sour cream and green onion, all between a flour tortilla to create a hearty and hefty taco. I would not have minded heavier flavors of garlic and ginger, but with the disparate elements at play here, some tastes get lost in the mix. Give these a try, then go for seconds at their real-life location and fall in love with a quirky and wonderful taco shop.
